Citing the ongoing state budget impasse, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences asked its more than 60 units across the U of I Urbana campus Friday to reduce spending by about 5%.
An SIU spokesperson expressed surprise at the use of the term "militarized", but said its #23 ranking shows that the university offers "relevant degrees" for people in the military community. The University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus ranked #83 in the same report.
The update of a plan first issued in 2010 outlines new short-term objectives aimed at reaching the goal of a carbon neutral campus by 2050 --- and officials are considering a proposal to move that goal up by 15 years.
Interim Provost Edward Feser says the University of Illinois Urbana campus is making cuts in both administration and faculty hiring, as part of efforts to cope with the state budget impasse.
