The news comes via a mass e-mail from Parkland President Tom Ramage, who says he can't be sure the state will provide any funding for community colleges in the coming year. Ending more than a century of flops, futility and frustration, the Cubs won their first title since 1908, outlasting the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in 10 innings of a Game 7 thriller early Thursday. "It happened. It happened. Chicago, it happened," first baseman Anthony Rizzo said. "We did it. We're world champions. I tell ya, we're world champions. I can't believe it."

A suspect is being sought in the killing of two police officers in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. The two officers were shot and killed early Wednesday as they sat in their squad cars.
"The shootings appear to have been ambush-style attacks," police spokesman Paul Parizek said in a statement.
