Nunn Dismissed From Illini Basketball Team

Kendrick Nunn, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery last week, has been dismissed from the Illini men's basketball team.  Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman and Coach John Groce issued a joint statement Tuesday, saying the decision was made after 'extensive deliberation.'  The two said this would 'send a strong message about what is acceptable behavior for our student-athletes.'

Alloy Foundry In Champaign Damaged By Fire

Champaign fire officials said fire crews would remain at the Alloy Engineering and Casting foundry on the city’s west side on Saturday, to put out any spot fires, following the three-alarm blaze that burned there for more than five hours overnight.  Later Saturday, officials there were eager to begin assessing the damage, and to see what it would take to get the site up and going again.

Documentary Profiles Latinos’ Role In Shaping Baseball History

U of I history professor Adrian Burgos learned through his family, and his love for baseball, that Latin players played a large role in the game since its early days. Burgos' research is the focus of "Playing America's Game", which includes interviews with Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, and current Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu. The program premieres Saturday at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
