The Evening Concert

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Brahms' “1st Symphony" from New York, Beethoven’s “4th Piano Concerto” from Chicago”, Gershwin’s “Piano Concerto” from Milwaukee, Bach’s “St. John Passion” from Pittsburgh, then Sunday a “Piano Quartet” by Dvorak from Lincoln Center, and an episode of “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 9:00 following the “Evening Concert” it’s “A Classical Valentine’s Day”. You’ll hear Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet” Overture-Fantasy”, Khachaturian’s “Adagio from Spartacus”, Liszt’s “Love’s Dream” and other “lovely” works. I’m Vincent Trauth. Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Schubert’s “D. 956 String Quintet” on the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.  At 8:00 you’ll hear Ockeghem’s “Requiem” on "Early Music Now".

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” and Schumann’s “4th Symphony”. Nikolai Znaider guest conducts. Also on the program Bruch’s “Scottish Fantasy” featuring violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Yaniv Dinur guest conducts the group in Mozart’s “Requiem”. Also on the program Ives’ “The Unanswered Question” and John Adams’ “On the Transmigration of Souls”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. It’s an all-John Williams program with the composer conducting music from his movie scores. You’ll hear music from the scores to “Star Wars”, “E.T”., “Jaws”, and “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, among others.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  The program opens with Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture” followed by Bartok’s “1st Violin Concerto” with soloist Glenn Dicterow, and finishes with Tchaikovsky’s “4th Symphony”.

It's a program that differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. It’s an all-Sibelius program on which you’ll hear “Finlandia”, the “2nd Symphony” and the “Violin Concerto” with soloist James Ehnes.
