The Evening Concert

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “Early Music in Knechtsteden, Part One”. You’ll hear lieder by Schumann and Mendelssohn accompanied by the Dörken sisters.  Also on the program Mendelssohn’s “6th String Quartet” and a few of the “Songs Without Words”.  

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Yo-Yo Ma is the soloist in Schumann’s “Cello Concerto”. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program Strauss’ “Aus Italien” and Liszt’s “Les Preludes”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Dvorak’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann. Christoph Dohnanyi guest conducts. Also on the program Tchaikovsky’s “Pathetique” Symphony” and Schumann’s “4th Symphony”.

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Dvorak’s “Violin Concerto” from New York, Schumann’s “Cello Concerto” from Chicago, music by Mendelssohn from Cologne, Debussy’s “La Mer” from Pittsburgh, then Sunday Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” from Lincoln Center, and an episode of “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Schumann’s “Piano Quintet” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”.  At 8:00 you’ll hear music of Thomas Tallis and his contemporaries on “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  You’ll hear Beethoven’s “9th Symphony” in a remastered 1966 performance led by William Steinberg featuring soprano Ella Lee, mezzo-soprano Joanna Simon, tenor Richard Kness, bass Thomas Paul, and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Rolandseck Festival”. Elena Bashkirova is the pianist in Mozart’s “13th Piano Concerto”.  Also on the program Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio with cellist Frans Helmerson.

You’ll hear Mahler’s “3rd Symphony” led by guest conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, with soprano Kelly O’Connor, Women of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Anima Young Singers of Greater Chicago.
