The Evening Concert

Susanna Mälkki guest conducts the CSO in a concert from June of this year (!). That's amazing that we can hear this concert so soon after it's original recording.

The "Song of the Earth" was originally published as a "Symphony" with vocal soloists, rather than some other music "form", like oratorio or aria.

Concerts this week from New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, New York again, and Santa Fe.

Jeremy Denk is the pianist in the Beethoven work; the Pacifica and Johannes String Quartets play the Mendelssohn.

He plays the Rachmaninoff work with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra...

The "9th Symphony" is Mahler's last completed work.
