The Evening Concert

Tuesday night February 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Maestros Barenboim, Boulez, and Solti conduct the CSO with the Chicago Symphony Chorus under the direction of chorus found Margaret Hillis in Bartok’s “Cantata Profana” and Brahms’ “A German Requiem”.

Monday night February 19 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Pierre Boulez conducts two historic performances taken from the orchestra’s archives. Jessye Norman sings Berg’s concert aria “Der Wein” and Yvonne Minton is the soloist in Mahler’s “3rd Symphony”.

Sunday night February 18 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on (WILL)-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Franck’s “String Quartet” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by “Cuban Maestros” on Fiesta and at 8:00 by “Take Me to The Water”.

Thursday night February 15 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 we pre-empt “The Sound of 13” to bring you a Black History Month special “Take Me to the Water”, a program that touches on themes from African mythology and water’s transportive nature.  At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night February 14 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mahler’s “6th Symphony” from the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing. Also on the program Zhao Jiping’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Nina Feng.

Tuesday night February 13 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Beethoven’s “3rd Piano Concerto” with soloist Jeremy Denk. Also on the program Mahler’s “Blumine” and the Schoenberg arrangement for orchestra of Brahms’ “1st Piano Quartet”.

Monday night February 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear William Grant Still’s “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program Courtney Bryan’s “Gathering Song” and Adolphus Hailstork’s “Done Made My Vow”.  That’s “The March to Liberation” on the “New York Philharmonic This Week”.

Sunday night February 11 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Debussy’s “String Quartet in G minor” from Lincoln Center followed at 7:00 by music of Ariel Ramirez on “Fiesta” and at 8:00 by another episode of “Gateways Radio”.

Thursday night February 8 at 7:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear another episode in a series ‘new-to-WILL’: “The Sound of 13” hosted by Garrett McQueen. It’s a program that examines the intersection of the 13th Amendment and classical music. At 8:00 it’s “The Middle”: a weekly, non-partisan call-in talk show on politics.  

Wednesday night February 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing perform Li Huanzhi’s “Spring Festival Overture” and Ma Sicong’s “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program Ravel’s “Bolero” and Brahms’ “3rd Symphony”.
