The Evening Concert

Sunday night at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Schumann’s “Piano Quintet” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Charles Ives’ “2nd String Quartet” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by Latin American classical music for winds on “Fiesta”.

Friday night July 21 at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s Gateways Radio. Garrett McQueen is your host. You’ll hear Florence Price’s “3rd Symphony” performed by the Gateways Orchestra led by Anthony Parnther. Also on the program, Brahms’ “Variations on a Theme by Haydn”. 

Thursday night July 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the third program from this year’s “Carnegie Hall Live” series. Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Aaron Copland’s “3rd Symphony”. Also on the program Arturo Marquez’s “Fandango for Violin and Orchestra” with soloist Anne Akiko-Meyers.

Wednesday night July 19 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the third program in a new series from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. You’ll hear Dawson’s “Negro Folk Symphony” and Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe Suite #2” led by Roderick Cox. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “1st Violin Concerto” with soloist Karen Gomyo.

Tuesday night July 18 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear a Grammy-winning performance of Mahler’s “8th Symphony”, the “Symphony of a Thousand”, made in Vienna in 1971 featuring vocal soloists Heather Harper and Lucia Popp among others. Sir Georg Solti conducted the performance.

Monday night July 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From a series of concerts recorded in 2014 you’ll hear soloist Yefim Bronfman play two of Beethoven’s piano concertos, the 2nd and the 3rd. Alan Gilbert conducts.  Also on the program Sean Shepherd’s  “Songs”.

Sunday night July 16 at 6:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Ravel’s “String Quintet” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Poulenc’s “Sextet for Piano and Winds” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by Latin American classical music duos on “Fiesta”.

Friday night July 14 at 6:00 on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s Gateways Radio. Garrett McQueen is your host. You’ll hear Billy Childs’ “The Distant Land” performed by the Akron Symphony Orchestra led by Alan Balter. Also on the program, Elgar’s “Enigma Variations” as played by the Gateways Orchestra led by Michael Morgan. 

Thursday night July 13 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the second program from this year’s “Carnegie Hall Live” series. Marin Alsop leads the São Paolo Philharmonic in its first ever visit to Carnegie Hall in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”. Also on the program Villa-Lobos’ “Harmonica Concerto”.

Wednesday night July 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the second program in a new series from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. You’ll hear Shostakovich’s “5th Symphony” led by Gustavo Gimeno. Also on the program Saint-Saens’ ‘5th Piano Concerto” the “Egyptian” with soloist Javier Perianes.
