The Evening Concert

Monday night August 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From the archives you’ll hear Pierre Boulez conduct Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite” and Dukas’ “La Peri”.  Also on the program, Leonard Bernstein is the soloist and conductor in Beethoven’s “1st Piano Concerto”.

Sunday night August 14 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear two of Shostakovich’s string quartets played by the Jerusalem Quartet on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by Piazzolla, Revueltas, and others on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night August 11 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s a “Deutsche Welle Festival Concert”. Herbert Blomstedt leads the Vienna Philharmonic in Bruckner’s “4th Symphony”, the “Romantic” and Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony.  Also on the program, Weber’s “1st Piano Concerto”

Wednesday night Aug 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Los Angeles Philharmonic”.  Guest conductor Thomas Wilkins leads the Philharmonic in an all-Duke Ellington program featuring the “Black, Brown, and Beige”, “Night Creature”, and “The River” Suite. Also on the program “A New World A-Comin’” featuring pianist Gerald Clayton.

Tuesday night Aug 9 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Hannu Lintu guest conducts the CSO in Nielsen’s “Helios Overture”, Lindberg’s “Serenades”, and Brahms’ “4th Symphony”. Also on the program Lalo’s “Symphonie espagnole” featuring violinist Ray Chen.

Monday night August 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. From the archives you’ll hear Giuseppe Sinopli lead the Philharmonic in Richard Strauss’ tone poems “Also Sprach Zarathustra” and “Death and Transfiguration”.  Also on the program Haydn’s “Harmoniemesse” conducted by Bernstein.

Sunday night August 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Brahms’ “2nd Viola Sonata” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by by Joseph Bologne le Chevalier St. George and others on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night August 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s a “Deutsche Welle Festival Concert”. Philippe Herreweghe leads the Champs-Elysées Orchestra and Collegium Vocale Ghent in Faure’s “Requiem” and Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms” and “Requiem Canticles”.

Wednesday night August 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Los Angeles Philharmonic”.  Xian Zhang leads the Philharmonic in Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s “Primal Message” and Julia Adolphe’s “Woven Loom, Silver Spindle”. Also on the program Beethoven’s “7th Symphony”.

Tuesday night August 2 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Edo deWaart leads the CSO in John Adams’ “The Chairman Dances” and Dvorak’s “8th Symphony”.  Also on the program Stravinsky’s “Violin Concerto” featuring Leila Josefowicz.
