The Evening Concert

Monday night April 18 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” featuring bass-baritone Gerald Finley, soprano Twyla Robinson, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote, tenor, Allan Clayton, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson, and boy soprano Benjamin P. Wenzelberg.

This week, Monday through Thursday April 18 - 21 and Sunday April 24 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” from New York, Dvorak’s “6th Symphony” from Chicago, Prokofiev’s “3rd Piano Concerto” from Pittsburgh, music by Lukas Foss from Milwaukee, and Sunday  Brahms’ “F Minor Piano Quintet” from Lincoln Center and “Fiesta! With Elbio Barilari”.

Sunday night April 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mozart’s K. 298 “Flute Quartet” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear Latin American music for Easter on “Fiesta!” With Elbio Barilari”.

Thursday night April 14, 2022 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the second program in a new series from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear a concert performance of Wagner’s Act One of “Die Walküre” featuring soprano Jessye Norman. Also on the program Wagner’s “Overture and Bacchanale from Tannhauser”.

Wednesday night April 13, 2022 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.   Simone Lamsma is the soloist in Korngold’s “Violin Concerto”. Yan-Pascal Tortelier guest conducts. Also on the program Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture” and Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances”.

Tuesday night April 12, 2022 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Mozart’s “Requiem” featuring Benedetta Torre, soprano, Sara Mingardo, contralto, Saimir Pirgu, tenor, Mika Kares, bass, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Also on the program William Schuman’s “9th Symphony”.

Monday night April 11 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Kodaly’s “Hary Janos” Suite, Rouse’s “Trombone Concerto’ featuring Joseph Alessi, Tchaikovsky’s “Francesca da Rimini” and Wagner’s “Overture and Venusberg Music from Tannhauser”.

This week starting Monday, April 11 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Kodaly’s “Hary Janos” Suite from New York, Mozart’s “Requiem” from Chicago, Korngold’s “Violin Concerto” from Pittsburgh, music from Wagner operas from Milwaukee, and Sunday Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” from Lincoln Center and “Fiesta! With Elbio Barilari”.

Sunday night April 10th at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Vierne’s Opus 42 “Piano Quintet” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear symphonic and chamber music by Claudio Santoro on “Fiesta!” With Elbio Barilari”.

Thursday night April 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the first program in a new series from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear music by Bach and music inspired by Bach. Music Director Ken-David Masur conducts. Also on the program Mozart’s “Overture to the Marriage of Figaro”.
