The Evening Concert

Thursday night June 23 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear Brahms’ “2nd Symphony” and Mendelssohn’s “4th Symphony”, the “Italian”. Also on the program Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”.  

Wednesday night June 22 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear Debussy’s “La Mer” (The Sea) and Ravel’s “La Valse”. Juraj Valcuha guest conducts.  Also on the program Prokofiev’s “3rd Symphony and Glazunov’s “Concert Waltz No. 1”.

Tuesday night June 21 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Schubert’s “9th Symphony” and Ravel’s “Rapsodie espagnole”. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program Falla’s “2nd Suite” from “The Three-Cornered Hat” and music by Anna Clyne.

Monday night June 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. It’s a program of works that had their world premieres by the Philharmonic, like Dvorak’s “New World Symphony”, Copland’s “Connotations for Orchestra” and Corigliano’s “Clarinet Concerto”.

Sunday night June 19 at 6:00 on FM 90.9 the “Evening Concert” starts with Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Beethoven’s Op. 20 “Septet” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by music of Latino composers in the US on “Fiesta!”.

Thursday night June 16 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. From their archives you’ll hear Bernstein’s “Serenade (After Plato’s “Symposium”)” and Copland’s “Quiet City”. Music Director Laureate Edo de Waart conducts.  Also on the program John Adams “Harmonielehre”.

Wednesday night June 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. Lorna McGhee is the soloist in Kaija Sarriaho’s “Flute Concerto”. Osmo Vanska guest conducts.  Also on the program Mendelssohn’s “3rd Symphony” the “Scottish” and Beethoven’s “Overture to ‘Egmont’”.

Tuesday night June 14 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Beethoven’s “7th Symphony” and Handel’s “1st Water Music Suite”. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program two concertos by Vivaldi featuring CSO principals as soloists.

Monday night June 13 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Reri Grist is the vocal soloist in Mahler’s “4th Symphony”. Also on the program the “Adagio” from Mahler’s “10th Symphony” and the opening movement to Mahler’s “8th Symphony”.

Sunday night June 12 at 6:00 on FM 90.9 the “Evening Concert” starts with Mozart’s K. 407 “Horn Quintet” from Santa Fe, followed at 7:00 by Saint-Saen’s “Violin and Harp” from Lincoln Center and at 8:00 by colonial era Latin American classical music on “Fiesta!”.
