The Evening Concert

Sunday night October 23 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s “3rd Sonata for Violina and Piano” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear the music of Teresa Carreño on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night October 20 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.  Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Glinka’s “Overture to ‘Ruslan and Ludmilla’” and Tchaikovsky’s “4th Symphony”.   Also on the program Brahms’ “1st Piano Concerto” with soloist Helene Grimaud.

Wednesday night October 19 starting at 7:00 on FM 90.9 you’ll hear an “Evening Concert Special” from the “Wind and Rhythm” series: “Music of Fantasia” followed at 8:00 by Episode 1 of the four-part series “The Middle” hosted by Jeremy Hobson It’s a live call-in program focused on issues of interest ahead of the midterm elections.

Tuesday night October 18 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Paul Lewis is the soloist in two of Beethoven’s piano concertos, the “1st” and the “4th”. Sir Andrew Davis guest conducts. Also on the program music by Sir Michael Tippett.

Monday night October 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  You’ll hear the Philharmonic, the Women of the choral group The Crossing and the Girls of the Young People’s Chorus of New York in Julia Wolfe’s “Fire in My Mouth”.

Sunday night October 16 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mozart’s “Hunt” Quartet played by the Dansih String Quartet on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear symphonic music of Carlos Chavez on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night October 13 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.  Anne-Sophie Mutter is the soloist in Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges “2nd Violin Concerto”. Music Director Manfred Honeck conducts.  

Wednesday night October 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear Ravel’s “Rapsodie espagnole” and Chabrier’s “Joyous March”.  Music Director Ken-David Masur conducts. Also on the program Lalo’s “Symphonie espagnole featuring violinist Chee-Yun.

Tuesday night October 11 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Anita Rachvelishvili is one of the vocal soloists in a concert performance  Mascagni's “Cavalleria rusticana”. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program choruses from Verdi operas.

Monday night Otober 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  From the archives it’s an all-Sibelius program that includes “Finlandia” and he “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program the “Violin Concerto” with soloist Zino Francescatti and “Pohjola’s Daughter”.
