The Evening Concert

Wednesday night December 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra”.  Music Director Laureate Edo de Waart leads the group in Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony and Delius’ “In a Summer Garden”. Also on the program Elgar’s “Cello Concerto” with soloist Susan Babini.

Tuesday night December 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Guest conductor Erina Yashima leads the CSO in Schubert’s “5th Symphony” and the “Novelettes Nos. 3 and 5” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Also on the program Kodaly’s “Dances of Galanta”.

Monday night December 5 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  Music Director Jaap van Zweden leads the Philharmonic in Tchaikovsky’s “5th Symphony” and selections from Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” ballet music. Also on the program Britten’s “Sinfonia da Requiem”. 

Sunday night December 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear three Bach cantatas, numbers 12, 72 and 168 on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by Manuel Ponce, Pablo de Sarasate and others on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night December 1 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. Beatrice Rana is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s “1st Piano Concerto”. Music Director Manfred Honeck conducts. Also on the program Poulenc’s “Gloria” and Dvorak’s “Te Deum”. 

Wednesday night November 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra”.  Augustin Hadelich is the soloist in Britten’s “Violin Concerto”. Music Director Ken-David Masur conducts. Also on the program Korngold’s “Suite from ‘Captain Blood’” and Shostakovich’s “Suite from ‘The Golden Age’”.

Tuesday night November 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Guest conductor Hannu Lintu leads the CSO in Sibelius’ “Finlandia” and “5th Symphony” as well as Nielsen’s “Helios Overture” and “Violin Concerto” with soloist Pekka Kuusisto.

Monday night Nov 28 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”.  From the archives you’ll hear Britten’s “Suite on English Folk Tunes”, William Shuman’s “Concerto on Old English Rounds” with viola soloist Donald McInnes, and the music for Bartok’s “The Wooden Prince”.

Sunday night November 27 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Mendelssohn’s Opus 44, No. 1 String Quartet on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear a guitar concerto by Ponce and a piano concerto by Prado on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night November 24 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 we pre-empt the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra” so that we can bring you a Thanksgiving Holiday special “Giving Thanks”. You hear the music of Bach, Handel, Grieg, and others and poems read by Ted Kooser and others.
