Wednesday night November 9 at 7:00 on FM 90.9 you’ll hear an “Evening Concert Special” from the “Wind and Rhythm” series: “British Composers” followed at 8:00 by Episode 4 of the four-part series “The Middle” hosted by Jeremy Hobson. It’s a live call-in program focused on issues of interest ahead of the midterm elections.
Tuesday night November 8 starting at 7:00 on FM 90.9 the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast” is pre-empted so that we can bring you live coverage of the Midterm Elections from NPR and Illinois Public Media. Our coverage on FM90.9 goes until 11 PM.
Monday night November 7 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Leonard Bernstein conducts Virgil Thomson’s “The Seine at Night” and Milhaud’s “Les Choephores”. Also on the program, George Szell conducts Mahler’s “4th Symphony”.
Sunday night November 6 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Brahms' “2nd String Quartet” played by the Calidore String Quartet on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music inspired by the “Day of the Dead” on “Fiesta”.
Thursday night November 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Smetana’s “Overture to the Bartered Bride” and Michael Daughtry’s “Symphony Fantasy on the Art of Andy Warhol”. Also on the program Schumann’s “Cello Concerto” with soloist Kian Soltani.
Wednesday night November 2 at 7:00 on FM 90.9 you’ll hear an “Evening Concert Special” from the “Wind and Rhythm” series: “High School Music” followed at 8:00 by Episode 3 of the four-part series “The Middle” hosted by Jeremy Hobson. Tuesday night November 1 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. You’ll hear Stravinsky’s “The Firebird” and Anders Hillborg’s “Eleven Gates”. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “2nd Violin Concerto” with soloist Daniel Lozakovich.
Monday night October 31 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with a “Playlist” program featuring Mahler’s “Night Music” from the “7th Symphony”, Schoenberg’s “Transfigured Night”, Stravinsky’s “Song of the Nightingale” and Ives’ “Central Park in the Dark”.
Sunday night October 30 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Joaquin Turina’s Opus 67 “Piano Quartet” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear classical tango music by Piazzolla and others on “Fiesta”.
Thursday night October 27 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” and Wynton Marsalis’ “Herald, Holler and Hallelujah”. Also on the program Britten’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Leif Ove Andsnes.
