C-U Public Health: Mumps On The Decline

Awais Vaid with Champaign-Urbana's Public Health District says staff is currently dealing with eight cases of mumps.  The outbreak saw as many as 175 since late August, mostly among U of I students.  But Vaid believes the outbreak could be over after the end of the fall semester.

Bomb Threat Evacuates Parkland College

A Parkland spokesperson says the threat came in about at 10:20 a.m. Thursday.  The community college quickly cancelled classes and evacuated.  "We are taking this seriously enough to err on the side of caution," said Parkland's Patty Lehn.  UPDATE - The school has announced it's reopening campus at 6 a.m. Friday after law enforcement completed their search.

Race, Affordability Among Themes In UI Town Hall

University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen spent nearly two hours gathering input in the second of three town hall meetings for a university-wide strategic plan, hearing comments on areas ranging from race to college affordability.  He calls it a 'pivotal' time for the school, calling for a 'resolutely student-centered approach' in areas like research and civil engagement.
