Four years ago on March 20, 2020, Illinois asked residents to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Joining us on the show is Ngozi Ezike, who was the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health from January 2019 to March 2022. We'll discuss how she received that role, and what her job looked like before COVID-19 struck. Then, we'll hear about the realization she had once she knew COVID-19 was going to be a major public health crisis, and what it was like navigating such a public and critically important role.

To close off our conversation with Ezike, we'll hear about what she thinks the lasting marks of the pandemic are, and if it seems like we're better suited to handle a future pandemic now.
