The Evening Concert

Wednesday night January 18 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the third program in a new series: “Orchestras from the European Broadcasting Union”. Alpesh Chauhan leads the BBC Symphony Orchestra in Bruckner’s “9th Symphony” and Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” with soloist Stephen Hough.

Tuesday night January 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. James Conlon guest conducts the CSO in Schubert’s “3rd Symphony”. Also on the program Prokofiev’s “1st Piano Concerto” with soloist Alexander Garylyuk.

Monday night January 16 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” You’ll hear an archive recording of Haydn’s oratorio “The Creation”. Soprano Judith Raskin, tenor Alexander Young, baritone John Reardon, and the Camerata Singers are featured.

Sunday night January 15 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Franz Schubert’s “2nd Piano Trio” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear a program of chamber music by Heitor Villa-Lobos on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night January 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear Stravinsky’s “Suite from ‘Pulcinella’” and Tchaikovsky’s “2nd Symphony”, the ‘Little Russian’. Kirill Karabits guest conducts. Also on the program Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto” with soloist Micah Wilkinson.

Wednesday night January 11 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the second program in a new series: “Orchestras from the European Broadcasting Union”. Simon Rattle leads the London Philharmonic in Schumann’s “2nd Symphony”. Also on the program Walker’s “Lilacs” with vocal soloist Nicole Cabell.

Tuesday night January 10 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Xian Zhang guest conducts the CSO in Prokofiev’s “6th Symphony”. Also on the program Grieg’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Simon Trpčeski.

Monday night January 9 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with “An All-American New Year’s Program”. Thomas Hampson sings selections from Copland’s “Old American Songs” and standards by Cole Porter.

Sunday night January 8 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 you’ll hear Franz Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music by Peruvian composer Celsa Garrido-Lecca on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night January 5 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “Overture to Egmont” and Mendelssohn’s “3rd Symphony”, the ‘Scottish’. Osmo Vanska guest conducts. Also on the program Saariaho’s “Flute Concerto” with soloist Lorna McGhee.
