On Tuesday, Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz announced she would not be filing criminal charges against Champaign Police Officer Matt Rush, the subject of multiple lawsuits alleging excessive force.  The head of the U of I's Police Training Institute weighed in on the state's use of force measure.

Champaign City Council members will be voting on the settlement of an excessive-force lawsuit involving the same Champaign police officer, Officer Matt Rush, for the second time in three weeks.

The City of Champaign has announced a second proposed settlement to a lawsuit over excessive force involving Police Officer Matt Rush.  On Tuesday, the city council will vote on the proposed $225,000 agreement, stemming from Benjamin Mann's complaint.  The council approved a $25,000 lawsuit settlement in a seperate incident last week.

This past spring, a Champaign police officer was let back on patrol after nearly being fired for excessive use of force. Eight months later, videos and documents have finally been released showing multiple accounts of the officer using force against civilians.
