Democrats will gain an additional seat, when the Champaign County Board holds its organizational meeting Monday night at 6PM. Six newly elected members will be sworn in. Five of them are Democrats: Leah Taylor, Mike Ingram, Charles Young, Eric Thorsland and Maria Vasquez, plus Republican Jodi Wolken.
Speaking at a rally, state Rep. Carol Ammons and Democratic County Board candidates, including Tanisha King Taylor and Mike Ingram, called on the News-Gazette to add women to its all-male editorial board, which they said could have prevented the publication of the cartoon.
Champaign County Democrats have pulled out of a county board candidates’ forum co-sponsored by the News-Gazette. It’s their response to an editorial cartoon printed in the newspaper on Tuesday, which Democrats say excuses sexual assault and depicts supporters of the “Me Too” movement as “humorless scolds”.
