The Relationship Between Coaches And Athletic Trainers
Illinois football coach Tim Beckman was fired for allegedly pushing student-athletes to play while injured. A reporter found that many athletic trainers feel that same pressure from coaches.
Brad Wolverton covers college sports for The Chronicle of Higher Education. In this September 2013 article, he surveyed more than 100 athletic trainers at major universities to find out how they feel pressured from coaches to get injured student-athletes back on the field.
Wolverton spoke with Illinois Public Media's Brian Moline about this article, how it relates to the current situation at Illinois, and what kind of changes he's seen in the coach/trainer relationship in the two years since it was published.
